Wrestling World C'ships: Olympic medalist Ravi Dahiya out of medal race
World No. 2 Dahiya was defeated by the Uzbek by technical superiority (10-0) in a one-sided fight.

Digital Desk: Ravi Dahiya of India was eliminated from medal contention in the Wrestling World Championships on Friday after losing to Gulomjon Abdullaev of Uzbekistan in the 57kg qualification round.

However, after entering the repechage, World under-20 bronze medalist Sagar Jaglan remained in contention for a bronze medal in the men's 74kg.

While Dahiya was eliminated early, Naveen advanced to the bronze medal match by defeating World No. 4 Syrbaz Talgat of Uzbekistan 11-3 in the first round of repechage at 70kg. However, Naveen's career was cut short later in the day as he was defeated 1-4 by 2021 World Championship silver medalist Ernazar Akmatalieve of Kyrgyzstan.

No. 2 in the world Dahiya was defeated by the Uzbek by technical superiority (10-0) in a one-sided match.

Sagar Jaglan of India lost in the men's 74kg quarterfinals to three-time world champion winner Kyle Dake of the United States. Vicky was defeated 4-3 in the first round by Radoslaw Marcinkiewicz of Poland.

World under-20 bronze medalist Jaglan defeated Israel's Mitchell Finesilver 15-4 and Mexico's Diego Zarco 13-2 before losing in the quarterfinals against Olympic bronze medalist Dake.

However, when Dake advanced to the final, Jaglan remained in contention for a bronze medal.

Dahiya, who won silver at the Tokyo Olympics last year, will not compete in the bronze repechage after Abdullaev was defeated by Albanian wrestler Zelimkhan Abakarov.

Naveen, on the other hand, advanced directly to the bronze medal match since his next-round opponent, Ilyas Bekbulatov (Uzbekistan), was unable to compete due to injury. However, Naveen, the Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold medalist, did not finish on the podium here.

Dahiya had defeated Razvan Marian Kovacs of Romania in the first round by technical superiority (10-0).

Dahiya knew it wouldn't be a simple match because he's previously lost matches against Abdullaev, who is ranked 30th in the world.

Abdullaev defeated Dahiya in retaliation for his defeat at the Yasar Dogu 2022 UWW Ranking Series tournament in Istanbul in February, but the Uzbek could not defeat Abakarov, who won by technical superiority (13-2) to secure his semifinal position.
