Which institution received the highest ranking?
The United Kingdom's University of Oxford, which has topped the rankings for eight straight years, has once more maintained its position. Along with UK-based institutions, the top 10 list also includes American universities. However, according to a thorough examination by THE magazine, the UK and the US are currently lagging behind other systems in terms of their overall position in the world of higher education.
The first edition of The Times Higher Education Supplement's World University Rankings, which evaluated 200 universities, was published in November 2004 in association with Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). Indicators included in the technique at the time included the staff-to-student ratio, academic reputation as determined by a poll, citations in research papers, the percentage of international students, and the presence of international employees on campus.
