Digital Desk: A tragic incident has cast a shadow over  ‘Goru Bihu’ celebrations in Assam’s Goalpara district, where two twin brothers lost their lives in the Krishnai area.

The incident occurred on the first day of Rongali Bihu, Goru Bihu, when the brothers had gone to the Krishnai River to bathe cattle as part of the traditional rituals. They were later reported missing, and their bodies were subsequently recovered.

The deceased have been identified as Dipankar Nath and Debashis Nath, both from ninth standard students from Tengabari village under Mornoi Police Station.

Soon after the incident, teams from Krishnai Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and launched a search operation, eventually recovering the bodies.

Meanwhile, the incident has triggered strong reactions among local residents. They have alleged that illegal sand mining in the Krishnai River over a prolonged period has led to the formation of deep pits, which may have caused the tragedy.

Locals have demanded immediate action to stop illegal sand mining in the area, warning of strong measures if authorities fail to act promptly.
