Digital Desk: A tragic accident occurred at Barpeta Road, resulting in the death of a female sanitation worker.

The victim, identified as 60-year-old Chanda Harijan, was fatally struck by a 10-wheeler truck and died instantly at the scene.

Chanda Harijan, a resident of Surya Nagar in Barpeta Road, was employed as a sanitation worker by the Barpeta Road Municipal Board.

The incident took place on Station Road, where the truck, bearing registration number AS 09 AC 1933 hit Chanda Harijan.

Following the accident, the truck driver fled the scene.

Local police promptly arrived at the location and have initiated an investigation into the incident.

Notably, the Barpeta Road Municipal Board has imposed restrictions on the entry of heavy vehicles, including 10-wheeler trucks, between 8 am and 8 pm to ensure public safety.

However, violations of this rule are reportedly frequent, with heavy vehicles continuing to enter the bustling town under the apparent negligence of the authorities.

This failure to enforce the restrictions has sparked serious concerns and frustration among local residents, raising questions about the efficacy of safety measures in the area.
