Digital Desk: A heinous incident unfolded in Tamarhat, where a seventh-grade girl was subjected to an attempted rape by her stepfather, who is now in police custody.
The accused, Ruknuz Zaman Billal, a man reportedly with multiple wives, attempted to assault the 12-year-old minor in a shocking act.
The disturbing event occurred in Uzanpetla Pratham Khand village, under the jurisdiction of Tamarhat police station.
Reports suggest that Ruknuz had been harbouring malicious intentions toward the minor for nearly a month before the incident.
Shockingly, the accused is the stepfather of the victim, having married the girl's mother- who has two children from a previous marriage- two years ago through legal means.
Following a formal complaint lodged by the mother, Tamarhat police arrested Ruknuz.
However, controversy has erupted as the police failed to register the complaint within 24 hours of the arrest.
Adding to the concerns, authorities reportedly restricted journalists from capturing visuals of the accused, raising questions about transparency.
This appalling crime, which occurred on the very first day of the English New Year, has left the community in shock and demanding justice for the victim.
