On Thursday, India registered 594 new coronavirus infections, marginally lower than Wednesday's 614, which was the highest daily count since May 21.

Digital Desk: Central government sources stated that up to 22 cases of the coronavirus sub-variant JN.1 were detected nationwide till December 21.

One of the viruses that has spread the quickest in recent weeks is JN.1, which is a member of the Omicron lineage and has been labelled as a "variant of interest" by the World Health Organisation.

A high-level conference was hosted by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday to discuss the status of affairs in India and the readiness for monitoring, controlling, and managing the virus in light of the recent surge in cases in some areas.

Though somewhat less than Wednesday's 614, which was the highest daily total since May 21, India had 594 new coronavirus cases on Thursday.
