Digital Desk: Officials reported that heavy rainfall in Manipur's Imphal valley caused floods, resulting in the loss of three lives and impacting thousands on Thursday. A 34-year-old man perished, and three others were injured in a landslide along Thonglang road in Senapati district due to Wednesday's downpour. Additionally, an 83-year-old woman drowned in the overflowing Senapati river. In Imphal, a 75-year-old man was electrocuted during Wednesday's rain when he accidentally touched an electric pole.

The floods from the Imphal River's overflow inundated hundreds of homes in Imphal Valley, prompting residents to seek shelter in nearby community halls. Officials observed flooding in approximately 86 areas in Imphal West district, including Khuman Lampak, Nagaram, Sagolband, Uripok, Keisamthong, and Paona areas, caused by the Nambul River's surge.

Continual rainfall caused breaches in the banks of the Imphal River near Keirang, Khabam, and Lairiyengbam Leikai areas in the Imphal East district, submerging numerous homes. Heingang and Khurai assembly constituencies in Imphal East district were severely affected, with floodwaters reaching chest level in many areas, as confirmed by an official.

To lead rescue operations, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived in Imphal via a special Air Force flight around 10 pm on Wednesday, according to officials.
