The locals claimed that the bridge was built with low-quality and cheap materials...

Digital Desk: A newly built bridge collapsed on Thursday in the Nagaon district of Assam, causing at least three workers to suffer severe injuries.

Reportedly, the incident occurred on a newly constructed Kopili bridge in Nagaon's Kampur area, where workers fell off after it collapsed.

The three employees were rushed to the hospital in a serious condition.

It is believed that there are more workers tapped under the bridge.

Meanwhile, locals claimed that the bridge was built with low-quality and cheap materials.

After the bridge collapsed, all the workers working under the bridge's contractor fled from the spot.

The incident has created quite a stir among the locals.

"The Bridge is only built to kill people. We don't know if anyone is stuck beneath the bridge's ruins. Nobody has yet come to assess the situation. Employees working for the contractor have also run away," one of the locals said.

Notably, the announcement comes after Assam finance minister Ajanta Neog announced a number of new infrastructure projects in the state that the government is going to complete this year.

Additionally, a number of important flyovers are included in the projects and are anticipated to be finished this year.
