Digital Desk: A mosque inside a government complex in Kabul, Afghanistan, was struck by a massive explosion on Wednesday, claiming four people dead and more than 20 others injured.

As per the local media, the blast occurred inside the Interior Ministry compound in Kabul. This comes only days after a suicide bomber killed 53 people, including 46 women, in a Kabul classroom. The horrific blast injured more than 100 people.

The Taliban confirmed that a blast went off in a government ministry mosque in Kabul as officials and visitors were praying. The Interior Ministry spokesperson confirmed the death of four people. A total of 25 people were injured in the blast near the ministry, it said.

In a tweet, an emergency NGO stated that it has received 20 patients, two of whom have been declared dead on arrival.

"The operating theatres are working and we have activated mass casualty procedures. We have received 20 people so far. The number may, unfortunately, increase again in the next few hours." Dejan Panic, Acting Country Director in Afghanistan said.

This string of explosions comes as the Taliban celebrates one year in power in Afghanistan after deposing the US-backed civilian government last year. Rights organizations claimed that the Taliban had repeatedly breached their promises to uphold women's and human rights.
