Digital Desk: A 60-year-old man was detained on Wednesday for reportedly kidnapping a 14-year-old girl from the Cachar district of Assam and raping her for three months.

Following a report by the victim's father, who hails from the village of Magurasora in the Karimganj district, the accused, Joynarayan Goreri, was arrested.

The victim girl claims that three months ago when her parents weren't at home, the accused kidnapped her.

She reportedly fell asleep after being forced to sniff something given by the accused.

Although the family had reported her missing, authorities were able to find leads in the case recently. Acting on a tip, she was rescued on Wednesday from Goreri's residence in Chotomanda village, under the Lakhipur police station in the Cachar district. He was arrested immediately.

Meanwhile, the victim was taken to the hospital for a medical examination.
