Digital Desk: The plan to eventually enlarge Guwahati was announced on July 7 by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. In the east, the city will reach Jagiroad, while in the west, it will reach Palashbari. According to the Assam Chief Minister, eight-lane highways will link Jagiroad and Palashbari with Guwahati.

Notably, Guwahati is the largest city in Assam and the largest city in the Northeast India. It is renowned as the "Gateway to North-East India." Dispur, the capital of Assam, is also housed there; it is situated in Guwahati's circuit city area.

The city is situated between the banks of the Brahmaputra River and the slopes of the Shillong plateau, with Narengi lying on its eastern sides and the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport placed in its western region. On the other side, the north of Guwahati, which lies on the Brahmaputra's northern bank, is increasingly assimilating into the metropolis. Given that Guwahati's population is steadily growing while its overall size is stagnant, it is clear that the city is becoming increasingly crowded and that this is a much-needed action.
