Digital Desk: A wild elephant was tragically murdered on Thursday in Lanka Assam's Hojai district after it was struck by a speeding train.

The event was reported from a location between the Habaipur and Patharkhola train stations.

According to sources, the elephant was struck by a cargo train as it crossed the rails.

After the occurrence, forest workers arrived at the location and removed the wild jumbo's carcass.

The body of a wild elephant was found in a river in Numaligarh in the Golaghat district of Assam earlier this month.

According to reports, people in the Doigrung River first noticed the jumbo, following which they alerted forest officials.

The elephant may have perished after slipping into an illegally dug sand hole.
