AAP demanded stringent action against the BJP and Gogoi, stressing the need to uphold democratic values and ensure fair electoral practices

Digital Desk: In a significant prelude to Assam's forthcoming elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has formally accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its candidate, Tapan Kumar Gogoi, of breaching the Model Code of Conduct.

The AAP leadership says that a businessman was caught on camera when he was allegedly distributing money to the voters in Jorhat. Dr. Bhaben Choudhury, AAP's State President in Assam, underscored concerns over video and photo evidence allegedly capturing cash distribution during the event, a clear breach of Election Commission guidelines. The complaint highlighted the association of the cash distributor with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, further amplifying apprehensions.

The complaint lodged with ECI says, “A person was captured on camera distributing cash during a media interaction event involving BJP candidate Mr. Tapan Kr Gogoi. This act of distributing cash, which is clearly visible in the recorded video, is a blatant violation of the principles laid down in the Model Code of Conduct.”

It further says, “It is noteworthy that this said person, the individual caught distributing cash, is also seen in a photograph alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This association raises serious concerns regarding the integrity of the electoral process and the impartiality of certain influential figures.”

AAP demanded stringent action against the BJP and Gogoi, stressing the need to uphold democratic values and ensure fair electoral practices. Despite these claims, the Election Commission's response remains awaited, raising questions about impartial enforcement, AAP said in a press meeting.

Despite AAP's outcry, the Election Commission's inaction has drawn criticism, with questions raised about the BJP's electoral strategies, as AAP mentioned in the press meeting. AAP reiterated the importance of winning voters through genuine efforts rather than resorting to unethical practices.
