Family members of victims Abhijit Nath and Nilotpal Das said they remain hopeful for justice
Digital Desk: The trial in the sensational Abhi-Neel mob lynching case, which had shaken Assam, has reached a crucial stage with the second phase of final hearings currently underway at the Nagaon Sessions Court.
Senior advocate Bijon Mahajan, representing the prosecution, presented his final arguments before the court. The defence is scheduled to present its concluding arguments on February 26 and 27.
The brutal incident took place on 8th June , 2018, at Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong, where two young men were lynched by a mob on suspicion of child abduction.
A total of 48 accused persons, including the prime accused George Timung and three juveniles, are facing trial in connection with the case. The police had earlier submitted an 800-page chargesheet before the court.
Expressing satisfaction over the pace and conduct of the judicial proceedings, the fathers of victims Abhijit Nath and Nilotpal Das said they remain hopeful for justice.
The case continues to draw public attention across the state as it nears its final stage.
