Digital Desk: Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled Britain for the longest time, passed away on Thursday. When she passed away, Charles, the heir-to-be and former Prince of Wales, immediately ascended to the throne.

Charles has spent the majority of his life preparing for the throne. At 73 years old, that time has finally come. The Accession Council will formally appoint King Charles III as the new ruler on Saturday.

He will rule the UK and 14 other nations, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea, after being crowned.
