The central government raised the upper age limit from 21 to 23 years on Thursday...

Digital Desk: The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced to provide Agniveers 10% reservation in CAPFs and Assam Rifles recruitment. The MHA has also agreed to relax the upper age limit for Agniveers to be recruited in the two forces by three years. The Home Ministry also added that the age relaxation for the first batch of Agniveer would be for 5 years beyond the upper age restriction.

Following widespread protests around the country, the Home Minister’s Office (HMO) released the information on Saturday morning.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) decides to reserve 10% vacancies for recruitment in CAPFs and Assam Rifles for Agniveers,” the MHA tweeted.

“The MHA also decides to give 3 years age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit to Agniveers for recruitment in CAPFs & Assam Rifles. Further, for the first batch of Agniveer, the age relaxation will be for 5 years beyond the prescribed upper age limit,” it added.

Agniveers are recruits for the defence forces under the new Agnipath short-term contractual recruitment scheme. The Agnipath scheme, announced on Wednesday, triggered widespread protests around the country. The central government raised the upper age limit from 21 to 23 years on Thursday. Nonetheless, the nation has been rocked by rallies, with angry protestors setting fire to many trains in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, and other states.
