AIDC and Singapore-based Surbana Jurong signed a 'letter of intent' for urban infrastructure development.

Digital Desk: A "letter of intent" for construction work on urban infrastructure was signed on Monday by the Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) and Surbana Jurong, which has its headquarters in Singapore.

According to a statement from the chief minister's office, Singapore Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma witnessed the agreement signing.

Speaking at the occasion, Sarma said that the 'letter of intent' signing will boost the 'organic relationship' between Assam and Singapore.

Himanta Biswa sarma emphasized the necessity for a master plan to make Guwahati a world-class city. He also said the Singapore-based company's expertise in building urban infrastructure would be extremely helpful in achieving that goal.

In response to the finding, Shanmugaratnam stated, "Now that the COVID-19 outbreak has passed its deadliest stage, the globe is again on the road to recovery. Therefore, Assam must use all of its potential for economic development.

Sarma emphasized the need for crucial infrastructure in the state, including cold storage, supply chains, and contemporary modes of transportation.

"Several Assamese products cannot reach markets where they may be offered at competitive prices because of a lack of infrastructure, such as cold storage, Sarma added.

"As a result of this (the lack of infrastructure), some produce is sold at a loss. The chief minister continued that the state's farmers would benefit greatly from focusing on such infrastructure.
