The website stated that "technicians are now trying to restore the system." The FAA could not be reached right away for more commentary.

Digital Desk: According to reports on Wednesday, a technical failure has halted all flights in the US. There has been a widespread system problem at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The FAA system notifies pilots and other flight crew members of hazards or any alterations to the services and applicable procedures provided by airport facilities. On Wednesday, the website of the organisation that regulates civil aviation indicated that it was not processing updated data.

The FAA declared in a warning that its NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) system had "failed." Although NOTAMs issued before the outage could still be viewed, the website said that there was no immediate estimate for when it will be restored.

As of Wednesday at 5:31 am ET, more than 400 flights were delayed inside, into, or out of the United States, according to flight tracking website FlightAware. It was unclear right away if the outage was a contributing factor.

The website stated that "technicians are now trying to restore the system." The FAA could not be reached right away for more commentary.

A NOTAM is a message that contains information that is crucial to those involved in flight operations but is not known far enough in advance to be made public in any other way.

For long-haul international flights, the information can be up to 200 pages long and may cover things like runway closures, general bird hazard advisories, or low-altitude construction barriers.
