Amazon plans to hire more than 8,000 direct job openings, from around 35 cities in India, this year, including the corporate sector, technology sector, customer service, and operations roles, according to a top company official.

"We have more than 8,000 direct job openings across 35 cities in the country, including cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Kolkata, Noida, Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Ludhiana, Pune, Surat," Amazon HR Leader Corporate, Deepti Varma told.

Deepti mentioned that the super-giant retail, Amazon, is hiring for machine learning applied sciences and in support functions like HR, finance, legal, etc. The company is aiming to open 20 lakh jobs, both direct and indirect, by 2025. Amazon has already opened 10 lakh direct and indirect jobs in India, she said.

The company has already given jobs to around 3 lakh people, both direct and indirect, and made the entire hiring process virtual during the Covid-19 pandemic, said Deepti.

India is the second-largest technology hub for Amazon, with Indian talent innovating products, for not just India, but also globally. Amazon's workforce has boomed during the pandemic as more people ordered essentials staying at home from the shopping site. Last year alone, Amazon hired 5,00,000 people.
