CNG prices in the national capital were raised by 2.50 per kilogramme for the second day on Thursday.
Digital Desk: To protest the dramatic rise in CNG prices, auto, cab, and taxi drivers in Delhi have been confronted with an "indefinite strike" beginning April 18. They have asked the government to provide a fuel subsidy or raise their fares. Associations of auto, cab and taxi drivers will hold Protests against the Centre and the city government at Jantar Mantar on Friday and at the Delhi Secretariat on April 11.
CNG prices in the national capital were raised by 2.50 per kilogramme for the second day on Thursday, bringing the total increase since March to 12.5. CNG in Delhi is now 69.11 per kg, up from 66.61 per kg just a few days ago.
Sarvodaya Drivers Welfare Association Ravi Rathor, who claims to represent around 4 lakh drivers in Delhi-NCR, told PTI that if their demands for lower CNG prices or fare increases are not met, his organisation will go on an "indefinite strike." "We are demanding a reduction in CNG rates, and if prices cannot be reduced, the fare should be raised to compensate for the price increase," he said.
According to Rajendra Soni, general secretary of the Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh, the price increase in CNG rates is "unprecedented," and it is becoming difficult for taxi, cab, and auto drivers to survive. Currently, the national capital has approximately one lakh auto rickshaws.
