Digital Desk: In an unusual encounter that took place in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur, A woman fought bravely with a leopard with a stick to save her three-year-old daughter from its jaws. Similar incidents occurred in the region several times, because of which the angry mob held 10 forest officials hostage and demanded immediate action against the life-threatening leopard.

The incident took place in the Durgapur Complex of Chandrapur where a three-year-old child was having her supper sitting in the courtyard of the house. A leopard all of a sudden attacked and dragged her away with it. Seeing this, the mother runs after the leopard with a stick and hit it in its mouth. This caused the leopard to drop the child and escape. The gravely injured child has been admitted to a nearby hospital and is undergoing treatment.

The woman, Jyoti Pupalwar, said, “My daughter was having food while I had gone to bathe. When I came out, I saw the leopard attacking her and taking her away. Even after the leopard dropped my child, I had to repeatedly attack it so that it ran away and didn't attack us again," she added.

Overall, 15 people, including 6 young children, have lost their lives owing to attacks by wild animals in this complex. This was the 16th incident in which a young child had been the victim of an attack like this.

“In view of the public displeasure, the Forest Department issued orders to kill the leopard late that night. It was only then that the people let go of the officials who were held, hostage. A search operation has been undertaken to find and kill the leopard.” a forest officer said.
