Digital Desk:  An explosion was heard in Afghanistan's capital's Wazir Akbar Khan area, which was confirmed by interior ministry spokesperson Bismulah Habib. The blast was heard near the capital's 'green zone,' which once housed many foreign embassies and NATO headquarters. It is now under the control of the ruling Taliban.

The blast occurred as worshipers were leaving the mosque in the Afghan capital, and the number of casualties is unknown at this time.

In recent months, several deadly blasts have occurred at mosques during Friday prayers, some of which have been claimed by the Islamic State.
