Digital Desk: In another disturbing incident, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly attacked with battery acid by a 20-year-old male in Assam's Barpeta district on Tuesday, according to officials.

The police reported that the girl knew her assailant.

The assault occurred when the victim was returning home from a cultural event.

The attack is claimed to be the result of a failed romance.
After the victim decided to sever her relationship with him, the accused went to extreme measures.

Following the incident, he was apprehended by the local police.
 
According to Assam police, the event occurred on Sunday in Mazdia village, which is within the jurisdiction of the Sarthebari police station.
 
"Initial investigations reveal that the victim and the accused were in a relationship, and the girl recently ended her relationship with the guy. "Angry over this, the accused, Meher Ali, attacked her with battery acid," said Pradip Saikia, additional SP of Assam's Barpeta district.

According to reports, the girl suffered superficial injuries to her neck and shoulder and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Her condition improved, and she was discharged on Monday.

Meanwhile, Assam police have detained the culprit, Meher Ali, and an investigation has been launched.
