Digital Desk: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has kicked off its preparations for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections by inviting applications from enthusiastic party members aspiring to contest in the polls. In a circular released by APCC's general secretary, Bipul Gogoi, it was announced that the application process, accompanied by a fee of Rs 1 lakh per applicant, will commence from Monday.

The circular, guided by APCC chief Bhupen Kumar Borah's directives, invites Indian National Congress (INC) members eyeing a chance to secure the party's ticket for any of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Aspiring candidates are required to submit their applications, along with the stipulated fee, within the window period of December 11 to 19.

However, considering the Congress's participation in a 15-member opposition party forum in the state with intentions to contest the general elections collectively, certain constituencies might be exempted from Congress candidates. The circular assures that applicants vying for these constituencies will have their fees refunded.

In light of potential seat adjustments in favor of their allies within the 15-party United Opposition Forum Assam (UOFA), the circular reassures applicants that if seats are vacated by the INC, the application fees will be reimbursed accordingly.

The UOFA, emulating the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), encompasses a diverse coalition including Congress, AJP, Raijor Dal, CPI (M), CPI, and several other regional parties. Recently, the UOFA held a strategic conclave spanning two days to plan their approach for the imminent Lok Sabha polls.

As the application process commences, the Congress in Assam gears up for a dynamic and collective electoral strategy, aligning itself within a multi-party alliance for the upcoming national elections.
