Digital Desk: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing probe into the APSC cash-for-job scandal, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police apprehended former principal controller of examinations, Nanda Babu Singh, as reported on Monday. Singh was taken into custody from his Silchar residence during the early hours of Saturday in relation to the corrupt practices within the Assam Public Service Commission.

His arrest follows two days of intensive interrogation by the SIT. Singh, reportedly a close associate of former APSC chairman Rakesh Paul, faced legal action and was presented alongside Paul before a special judicial court in Guwahati.

Sources revealed that the SIT has petitioned the court for a seven-day remand of the accused duo for further investigation into the scandal.

This development comes on the heels of another arrest on Friday involving Wahida Begum, the Superintendent of Taxes in Karbi Anglong district. Allegedly involved in the 2014 APSC recruitment fraud, Begum was taken into custody from the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of State Tax cum Superintendent of Taxes in Diphu.

The investigation unfolds as allegations persist regarding unfair recruitment practices, implicating prime accused Rakesh Das and shedding light on a network of collusion within the APSC.
