Guwahati: Former AIUDF MLA Phanidhar Talukdar has officially joined Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) on Wednesday.

Talukdar said that the poverty of his condition made him join the ruling party in Assam.

“People in my constituency are poor. How long will I be in opposition and how is it going to benefit people of my area? So I Joined BJP”.

Mentioning the reason for leaving All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), he said: “I left AIUDF to work with the Chief Minister. There is no issue with AIUDF but I was hoping that they’ll be part of the government.”

Talukdar quitted the party on Tuesday and earlier this year he contested the state assembly polls on Badruddin Ajmal's AIUDF ticket.

Phanidhar Talukdar is a residence of  Patacharkuchi, Assam and he was elected as an MLA from Bhabanipur Constituency in the 2021 Assam Assembly Election.
