A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Members of Parliament from Assam recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Parliament House on Friday, pressing for crucial financial relief for farmers severely affected by the state's ongoing flood crisis. The MPs specifically requested the Central Government to consider providing 100 days of wages in advance to these farmers under the Viksit Bharat - Mission for Employment and Livelihoods Guarantee (Gramin) (VB-GRAM) law.
During the meeting, the parliamentary representatives, including Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, apprised the Home Minister of the extensive damage caused by the floods across Assam and the significant challenges faced by the local populace. The proposed wage advance under VB-GRAM is seen as a vital measure to help farmers cope with the immediate economic fallout and rebuild their livelihoods.
Responding to the delegation's appeal, Home Minister Amit Shah assured them of all possible assistance from the Central Government. He further conveyed that he is in continuous communication with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and is personally overseeing the flood relief operations to ensure timely and effective aid reaches all affected areas. The Centre's commitment to supporting Assam through this natural calamity remains steadfast, with efforts focused on mitigating the crisis and facilitating recovery.
