According to the CID, Pandey, who is originally from Uttar Pradesh but now resides in Beltola, Guwahati, has been impersonating a Crime Branch Inspector and extorting money from suspects / accused in various CID cases under the guise of being able to forgive them by persuading top CID personnel.
