The state government made a significant decision to expedite the installation of smart prepaid meters...

Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the power department to install individual prepaid meters in all government quarters, including residences in the ministerial colony, after realizing that a nominal amount was being deducted from the salaries of ministers and senior officers in an effort to pay the monthly power bill.

According to CM Sarma's post on platform X, the action was taken to make sure that no ministers, officers, or government workers were receiving discounted power.

Taking to X, CM Sarma wrote, "During my recent interactions with officials from the Power Department, I was informed for the first time that a very nominal monthly power bill is deducted from the salaries of ministers and senior officers. Immediately, I instructed the department to install individual prepaid meters in every government quarter, including residences in the ministerial colony. This measure aims to ensure that no subsidized power is enjoyed by ministers, officers, or government employees.”

During the January 12 Assam state cabinet meeting, the state government made a significant decision to expedite the installation of smart prepaid meters.
