Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma started the awarding of scooters to deserving students who passed the last higher secondary examinations on Wednesday.
The scheme was implemented through the Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award, which is part of the Pragya Bharti scheme, to a total of 35,800 beneficiaries, 6,052 of whom are boys and 29,748 of whom are girls. To be eligible for the prize, boys had to earn at least 75% in the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council's higher secondary examinations, while girls had to score 60%.
The main event in the state capital saw the delivery of scooters to students from the Kamrup Metropolitan and Kamrup districts. An official stated that distribution in the other districts will take place by December.
CM Sarma remarked at the occasion, "It is a significant milestone in the lives of individuals who made it to the list of eligibles for the Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award; it is a gift and blessing from society for their hard work and dedication to the subject."
He stated that automation will be the motto for progress over the next few decades and urged students to focus on creativity, which will ensure that they become job providers rather than job seekers. "Meritorious pupils should always strive to reach for the stars. Limiting your objectives to grade-3 and grade-4 positions in the future will be a waste of skill "Mr. Sarma stated.
The government will evaluate the prospect of distributing electric scooters to recipients beginning next year, which will minimize the need for students to spend money on fuel, he added.
The chief minister also mentioned an impending initiative in which girl students pursuing post-graduate programmes in state educational institutions will receive a yearly stipend of Rs 10,000 apiece. "This will help in covering their commutation and other related expenditures," he said, urging women studying post-graduate programmes to apply through the portal that the Department of Education will open in a few weeks.
