Guwahati: Despite the low rate of vaccination in Assam and other northeastern states amid the late surge in positive cases, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, including other ministers of the area received praise from Prime Minister for their efforts and support in fighting the pandemic.

Assam CM Sarma was praised by Modi during the video meeting. He has been praised for his efforts to fight the second wave of Covid19, without imposing complete lockdown in most of the places. 

However, Cm Sarma raised concern regarding the fact of requiring more vaccines for the state. Considering the third wave threat is approaching, Sarma tells PM to provide extra doses of Vaccines for the state.

Chief ministers of eight northeastern states, including Sikkim, attended the video-meet on the Covid-19 circumstances.

Sarma highlighted the importance of restraining Covid 19 cases in the tea garden regions of the state and additionally states the PM on the attempts exercised to vaccinate the garden population at the earliest incorporating other measures. 

He additionally acquainted him regarding the state of medical oxygen production, ICU beds, oxygen beds, including isolation wards for Covid-19 treatment.

Sarma stated that the state government started Testing-Tracking-Treatment’ s procedure and managed to control the virus by declaring more than 6,000 micro-containment zones.

“Both the economy and Covid fight were sustained simultaneously,” Sarma said.
