Digital Desk: In a proud moment for the state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be conferred with the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship of Singapore, reports emerged on Sunday.

CM Sarma will receive the prestigious "Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship" during his visit to Singapore. To accept the honour, the chief minister has been invited to the country.

It should be mentioned that Himanta Biswa Sarma is the first Assam chief minister to have been bestowed the fellowship. He has played a significant role in advancing global peace and development, which has led to his selection for the honour.

Former Vice Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, former Union Minister Arun Shourie, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan are some of the previous Indian recipients of the fellowship.

In 1991, the 'Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship' was officially launched as an honour to Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's first Prime Minister, for his contributions to the nation. It is given to people in recognition of their efforts to promote worldwide goodwill and national development.
