Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to visit violence-torn Manipur on June 10...

Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to visit violence-torn Manipur on June 10 (Saturday), according to reports.

Reportedly, CM Sarma will meet Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh. The two are expected to have a discussion on the causes that sparked the state's widespread unrest last month.

Violence erupted in Manipur following a 'Tribal Solidarity March' in the hill districts to oppose the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

During his four-day visit to the state, Union Home Minister Amit Shah issued strict warnings, stating that individuals who refuse to give up their weapons would face harsh punishment. A day later, at least 140 firearms were surrendered in various locations across the state.

Meanwhile, security forces are working tirelessly to suppress violence and disarm society by instilling confidence in all segments of society.

Security forces have been undertaking Joint Combing Operations in crucial areas around the state, including the Hills and Valley areas. The combing operations try to de-escalate tensions between communities by physical dominance, as well as recover snatched weapons that are still in the unlawful custody of the local population.
