Digital Desk: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the state police on Tuesday to file a case against Rahul Gandhi for "provoking crowd" amid Congress workers being stopped from entering Guwahati during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Taking to X, CM said, "These are not part of Assamese culture. We are a peaceful state and such ‘Naxalite tactics’ are completely alien to our culture. I have instructed @DGPAssamPolice to register a case against your leader @RahulGandhi for provoking the crowd & use the footage you have posted on your handles as the evidence.”
Amid Congress workers being stopped from entering Guwahati during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Rahul Gandhi and around 5,000 Congress workers were intercepted on Tuesday as they attempted to enter Guwahati following the party's resumption of its flagship "Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra" in Assam.
Partygoers then fought with police officers and tore down police barricades. To disperse the crowd, police used lathi charges.
Speaking to a crowd near the border of Guwahati, Rahul Gandhi declared that although his party's members would never disobey the law or disturb public order, "this doesn't mean that we are weak."
"Assam CM, the Union Home Minister, and the PM can break the rules, but we (Congress) would never do such a thing. However, this doesn't mean that we are weak. Congress workers are 'Babbar Sher'," Gandhi said, standing atop a bus.
Amid Congress workers being stopped from entering Guwahati, the former head of the Congress claimed that Amit Shah, the Union home minister, had given the Assam chief minister instructions to stop him from meeting students today before he left for Guwahati.
