Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today underscored the immense scale of destruction caused by the recent floods in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, suggesting that some affected communities might necessitate a full rebuilding of their villages. Following a ground assessment, the Chief Minister stated that the devastation was considerably more severe than what had been depicted in media reports, emphasizing that conventional financial relief alone would be insufficient for recovery.
During his visit, Chief Minister Sarma traversed the flood-ravaged village of Nepali Khuti by tractor to personally evaluate the extent of the damage. Interacting with displaced residents, he reviewed the widespread destruction to homes, livestock, and public infrastructure that has uprooted thousands of families across Upper Assam.
“The damage in Sivasagar and Charaideo is far more severe than what is being shown on television. Flood relief alone will not be enough,” the Chief Minister remarked. He specifically identified areas such as Bihubor, Nepali Khuti, Betbari, and Nimaijan as locations where comprehensive rehabilitation efforts, potentially including the reconstruction of entire villages, would be crucial to restore normalcy.
The Chief Minister's candid assessment highlights the urgent and large-scale intervention required to help communities recover from the unprecedented deluge that has submerged vast areas and displaced a significant population.
