Digital Desk: According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam government intends to develop the Assam Medical College (AMC) in Dibrugarh into a cutting-edge research institute for dealing with new age ailments. The CM made the remarks while visiting the platinum jubilee celebrations of Assam's oldest medical college.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarma stated that the premier institute needs to be upgraded into a cutting-edge medical institute with a strong emphasis on research to deal with acute disorders. He also requested that the medical college authority manage the collaboration between the state government and IIT Guwahati for cutting-edge medical research.
According to media sources, the state government will pay Rs 300 crore to AMC for the development of instructors' quarters and student hostels. "75 years is a long time, and during that time, the medical college has produced numerous doctors who are now leaders in their fields of competence," Sarma remarked.
CM Sarma expressed gratitude to the medical college fraternity for its dedication during the Covid-19 pandemic. He stated that several human lives were spared as a result of their unwavering determination.
"The state government is committed to providing everyone in the state with a sophisticated, accessible, and affordable health care delivery system." "As a result," he continued, "the state administration has decided to increase the number of medical colleges to twenty-four."
In celebration of the occasion, a commemorative Platinum Jubilee Postal Stamp was also issued. Keshab Mahanta, Assam's Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and Rameshwar Teli, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, both attended the event.
