The four bodies were identified as Nepal national Ganga Bahadur Shreth, Lijen Magar of Umrangso (27), Khushi Mohan Rai of Kokrajhar (57), and Sarat Goyary of Sonitpur (37).

Digital Desk: Five bodies of the workers, trapped in a flooded rat-hole mine since January 6 after water gushed into the 310-foot-deep coal mine in the Dima Hasao district of Assam were recovered on Wednesday. The remaining five bodies were recovered after 44 days by the rescue teams.

Earlier, four bodies were recovered from the mine by the teams from NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Assam Rifles on January 8 and January 11 respectively.

Taking to X, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Today, the dewatering of the Umrangso mines was completed to a level where retrieval operations could be launched. The mortal remains of the remaining 5 miners have been recovered and brought up from the mine shaft. The process to identify the remains has been initiated."

The Assam Government has already paid Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the four bodies recovered earlier. A compensation of Rs 6 lakh was also distributed among the families of missing miners.
