Digital Desk: Assam Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Debabrata Saikia has filed a complaint against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly making a hate speech against Sonia Gandhi.

Saikia claimed that Himanta made derogatory statements against Sonia Gandhi during the Jan Ashirwad rally in Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha.

Saikia claimed that Sarma demanded that 10 Janpath, Sonia Gandhi's official Delhi residence, be "set on fire."

"I am compelled to file this F.I.R. because of the banal and hateful statement made by Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, on September 19, during the Jan Ashirwad rally in Vidisha district, Madhya Pradesh," his complaint read.

While speaking to the media in Assam's Nazira town, Saikia alleged that Himanta made a jab at Congress leader Kamal Nath, saying that if he is a devotee of Lord Hanuman, he should set 10 Janpath ablaze "just like Hanuman set Lanka on fire."

"In a country governed by the rule of law, Sarma has taken electoral rhetoric to its ugliest form," Saikia told reporters.

"She is an important member of the Indian Parliament. She is a respectable woman who represents Congress and the UPA. "I strongly condemn such comments against her, and I did not expect such words to come from our chief minister," Saikia added.
