According to Das, a boundary dispute in Mahtoli was settled by villagers, but he was taken into custody by Tulsibari police later that evening on July 29.

Digital Desk: The Tulsibari police station in Rangia, Assam, is facing backlash after a detainee broadcasted a Facebook Live video alleging wrongful arrest and detention.

Sonjyoti Das, who was held in connection with a border dispute in Mahtoli village, claims he was unjustly arrested and punished despite having no involvement in the conflict. Das went live from the lockup, accusing the police of misconduct and corruption.

According to Das, a boundary dispute in Mahtoli was settled by villagers, but he was taken into custody by Tulsibari police later that evening on July 29. He asserts he was not even at home during the incident and alleges that the police demanded a bribe and detained him unfairly. He also implicated the officer-in-charge of Rangia police station in his accusations.

The broadcast has raised significant concerns, particularly regarding how Das managed to use his mobile phone and stream live from within the lockup. The Assam Police are now under scrutiny for these serious allegations and the security lapses at their detention facilities.
