Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to query the flood situation in the State on Tuesday.
PM Modi assured CM Himanta Biswa Sarma that the center would provide all the possible assistance to the State said, CM Sarma.
CM Sarma tweeted, “Adarniya Pradhan Mantri @narendramodi ji telephoned today to enquire about flood situation & assured all help to Assam to combat this menace. The current flood has gravely impacted the livelihoods of people. My gratitude to Adarniya Modi Ji for standing with us at this hour of crisis.”
Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report said, more than 950 villages in 21 districts of Assam that inhabit 3,63,135 people have been affected due to floods in the State.
Lakhimpur remains the worst hit, with more than 1.3 lakh people being affected, followed by Majuli and Darrang, with around 65,000 and 41,300 people being affected, respectively.
Moreover, a total of 30,333.36 hectares of cropland have been damaged across the State due to flood.
Moreover, two children lost their lives due to floodwater in Barpeta and Morigaon districts, respectively.
ASDMA officials said that 44 centers that include 16 relief camps and 28 relief distribution centers had been opened in the State to help the flood-affected people.
The flood-affected districts are Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, West Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, and Tinsukia.
