Digital Desk: The flood crisis in Assam has escalated, with the death toll reaching 25, as reported by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), on June 7, 2024. Approximately 423,000 individuals across 10 districts are grappling with the aftermath of the flood, with 459 villages still submerged.

The districts affected include Cachar, Nagaon, Karimganj, Dhemaji, Morigaon, Hojai, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Hailakandi, and Karbi Anglong West. Cyclone Remal has triggered heavy rainfall in Assam, resulting in extensive flooding.

Persistent rain has caused the water levels of the Brahmaputra, Kopili, and Kushiyara rivers to surpass the danger mark. Nagaon district alone has 213,482 affected individuals, while Cachar district reports 119,090, Hojai district 60,451, and Karimganj district 19,524.

Currently, over 1.08 lakh people are seeking shelter in 240 relief camps organized by the administration. The flood has also impacted 45,968 animals. Rescue operations, led by NDRF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, and local administration, are underway. Furthermore, 42 medical teams have been dispatched to provide aid to the affected populace.

The flood has inflicted considerable damage to infrastructure, including 24 roads, Anganwadi centers, irrigation canals, electric poles, and one embankment breach. In Nagaon district alone, 213,482 individuals are affected, while Cachar district records 119,090 affected persons. Hojai district reports 60,451 affected individuals, and Karimganj district documents 19,524 affected residents.
