Digital desk: The Assam administration on Monday declared localized public holidays in the corresponding constituencies. During the state's three-phase Lok Sabha elections.

Public holidays on April 19, 26, and May 7 were declared in districts where polling was scheduled on those dates by the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881. The announcement was made by an order from the governor.

Polling in five constituencies—Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kaziranga, Lakhimpur, and Sonitpur—will take place in the first phase on April 19. 

Five candidates in total, including two independents, Raj Kumar Duara and Baba Kurmi, and Arun Chandra Handique of the Sanatan Bharat Party, filed their candidacy in Jorhat. 

Tasa's opponent in Kaziranga will be Roselina Tirkey, a former MLA who filed her nomination for Congress on Tuesday.

Nine candidates filed their nominations on the final day, making Kaziranga, the renamed Kaliabor constituency during the state's delimitation operation, the seat with the most candidates—12 total. 

AGP's Rajya Sabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya and state party president Bhabesh Kalita accompanied BJP MLA and former minister Ranjit Dutta as he filed his nomination in Sonitpur.
