Digital Desk: Assam's government directed all high schools, higher secondary schools, and senior secondary schools on Wednesday to display photographs of all teachers in classrooms.

The Director of Secondary Education in Assam, Mamata Hojai, issued a directive to the heads of all the state's secondary schools.

The order dated August 17 ordered all inspectors of schools to issue directives to the heads of all institutions under their jurisdiction to display photographs of all teachers in durable, high-quality frames in classrooms.

Hojai stated that the order will apply to all high schools, senior secondary schools, and higher secondary schools.

The objective behind this decision is to increase transparency between teachers and parents. For example, if parents want to meet with teachers to address difficulties with their child, they cannot do so until they are familiar with the instructor, Hojai said.

"Our main goal is to provide the school students with an excellent education. If parents wish to speak with the teacher about a child's academic concerns, they may not know each other. Parents want to talk to the instructors about any issues their children may be having, but it can be challenging if they don't know who the teachers are. We have thus requested that all institutional heads put the teachers' pictures up in the classrooms," Hojai said.

Hojai added that this was just one of several actions taken in the Assam education sector by the government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It should be noted that the Assam government directed the schools and education department last month to implement English as a language of teaching for science and mathematics for grades 6 to 12.

In addition, in July, the government appointed 280 specially-abled applicants as teachers in several districts of Assam.
