Digital Desk: A great step taken by the Assam Government by lending a helping hand to Flood-Hit Himachal Pradesh, the Chief Minister Office (CMO), the Assam Cabinet has decided to contribute Rs 10 crore to Himachal Pradesh in response to the state's problems caused by floods. 

''In light of the hardships endured by our Himachal Pradesh brothers and sisters, the Assam Cabinet has agreed to contribute Rs 10 crore to the Himachal Pradesh government. During this time of difficulty, Assam stands in solidarity with Himachal Pradesh,'' the CMO posted on microblogging site X (Twitter).


The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also suggested that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and the Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) be repealed throughout the state. 

During a press conference, Sarma underlined the Cabinet's unanimous decision to file a formal request to the central government for the repeal of AFSPA, a law in effect for several decades. 

In addition to repealing AFSPA, the State Cabinet suggested that the Disturbed Areas Act be repealed throughout the state. 

In addition, the Cabinet stated that numerous major colleges in the state had been granted university status. This prestigious upgrade has been granted to Sibsagar College, Kokrajhar Government College, Bongaigaon College, JB College-Jorhat, North Lakhimpur College, Nagaon College, and Gurucharan College. 

The cabinet meeting also resolved that Biswanath, in the Tamulpur district, will be granted official district status beginning September 17. 

The Assam Cabinet has resolved that the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) will meet with Union Minister HBS on September 9 to discuss the state's ongoing power issue.
