Digital Desk: The state government of Assam has issued an order prohibiting government officers and employees from getting married again without first obtaining the approval of the state government.


The Assam government's principal secretary, IAS Niraj Verma, made this announcement in an order issued on Thursday.


Any employee who violates the constituted regulations and engages in bigamy is required by law to pay a heavy fine. In addition, the accused must deal with a departmental investigation.


Not only that, the order said, the retirement rule might also apply if necessary.


The order read, "No Government servant who has a wife living shall contract another marriage without first obtaining the permission of the Government, notwithstanding that such subsequent marriage is permissible under the personal law for the time being applicable to him."
