The Commission will only record cases that takes place within the span of a year...

Digital Desk: The State Human Rights Agency urged citizens of Assam on Friday to file complaints with the commission without hesitation.

Speaking to the media in Guwahati, commission members said that although there is a misconception among the people that they can only file complaints in English, they can do so in Assamese as well.

The Commission will only record cases that take place within the span of a year.

In Assam, fewer human rights cases have been reported than in other parts of the nation. The state registered 310 cases in 2019–20, 304 cases in 2020–21, 275 instances in 2021–22, and 270 cases in 2022–23.

The commission has recorded the highest number of suo moto cases in Assam so far this year.

The charges against the use of formalin in fish, the use of subpar iron in building projects, and the supposed death of Sub Inspector Junmoni Rabha are just a few of the suo moto cases that have been lodged.

There are still 320 cases that need to be dealt with.

"We have received many cases of human rights violations in police stations and medical facilities. Among these, cases against police amounts the highest," said an official in the press meet. He further disclosed that teams of commission officials will soon visit certain locations.

The official further added, "They will also visit various educational institutions to raise awareness about human rights issues among the students."
