Digital Desk: The Assam Police apprehended two drug peddlers in the Karbi Anglong district on Sunday and confiscated heroin worth Rs 16 crore from their possession.

In response to a particular tip, the Assam Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) established a combined Naka in the Dilai Tiniali region and confiscated 3.5 kilograms of heroin worth Rs 16 crore from a vehicle carrying 286 packets of soap cases.
Golap Khandakar (29) and Sahanur Mir (21) of Barpeta have been named as the accused.

According to Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Bokajan, John Das, a four-wheeler with registration number AS-01 MC-4996 was intercepted and a thorough search of the vehicle yielded 286 packets of soap cases carrying 3.5 kilograms of heroin.

"In this regard, we have arrested two people. The market value of the drugs confiscated is expected to be around Rs 16-17 crore," John Das stated.

An investigation is now underway.

Earlier on Saturday, the Assam Police in Dima Hasao halted a car and apprehended two drug peddlers and one other person near the Jatinga region, recovering 42 (Narcotic capsules) weighing 20 grams hidden in little plastic containers, Dima Hasao DSP said, adding that many others are also involved.
