Digital Desk: In a disturbing incident, a police personnel from Assam has been accused of physically assaulting his wife and demanding dowry, further threatening her life. The incident came to light in Dergaon, located in Assam's Golaghat district.

The accused in question has been identified as Rupjyoti Hazarika, a jawan serving in the Assam Police's 11th Battalion stationed in Dergaon. The shocking allegations against Hazarika reveal a tumultuous relationship marred by abuse.

It is reported that Hazarika had entered into a relationship with a woman from Kampur in Nagaon, which later led to their elopement and subsequent marriage. However, the early days of their union soon turned into a nightmare for the woman.

According to the victim and her family, Hazarika frequently resorted to alcohol and subjected his wife to physical and emotional abuse while demanding dowry. The situation escalated to the extent that he allegedly threatened her life if she failed to meet his monetary demands.

In response to the distressing situation, the woman's family sought assistance from the Dergaon Police, who swiftly intervened and rescued her from the clutches of her in-laws. She was safely returned to her hometown in Kampur.

The victim has now appealed to the authorities for justice, urging them to ensure that the accused faces the strictest possible punishment for his alleged crimes. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in combating domestic abuse and the pressing need to protect the rights and safety of women within society.
