Digital Desk: Kati Bihu was celebrated at the Office of The District Agriculture Officer at Kumpathar Village under Tumpreng ADO Circle in West Karbi Anglong.
As part of the celebration, an awareness meeting was held where the farmers were told about the various schemes of the department and how they could benefit from the various schemes.
District commissioner, West Karbi Anglong district, Krishna Baruah, and VDC Chairman, Bithung Rengthema VDC Ramson Rongpi were present on this occasion as the chief guest.
They were joined by Biswajit Rongpi, the district agriculture officer for West Karbi Anglong; Saurav Dutta, a scientist at Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Diphu; Raju Borkakoty, the director of the paddy procurement center; Biraj Kalita, the ADO for Chintong I.T.D.P.; and all the department's official employees.
The District Commissioner participated in the celebrations by planting a tulsi plant as part of the customary procedure.
The renowned visitors also gave away agricultural tools to the grateful farmers. The traditional sakis were lit in the paddy field to bring an end to the day's celebrations and to continue the spirit of optimism and unity.
Kati Bihu, also known as Kangali Bihu, is observed on the last day of Ashwin month in the Assamese calendar, which usually falls in October. This event, which has a strong connection to agriculture, is largely concerned with wishing for a bountiful harvest during the upcoming winter season. To ward off pests and evil spirits that could harm their crops, farmers burn traditional lamps called "sakis" and place them in paddy fields.
The igniting of bonfires and earthen lights also represents the eradication of darkness and the bringing of optimism and prosperity.
The Kati Bihu celebrations bring in a season of promise for the diligent farmers of Assam and serve as a reminder of the value of sustainable agriculture and cultural heritage, fusing tradition and modernity.
