In a significant stride towards enhancing disaster response, the Assam government recently unveiled a dedicated mobile application to streamline the assessment of flood damage and accelerate the disbursal of relief. Named the 'Rapid Assessment Survey of Flood Damage and Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA)' app, this digital tool marks a crucial step in the state's efforts to mitigate the impact of its perennial flood challenges.
The primary objective behind this technological intervention is to overcome the traditional delays associated with manual surveys. By enabling digital collection of damage data, the application is expected to facilitate a much quicker identification of affected families and ensure that financial assistance reaches them without undue delay. This initiative aims to bring greater efficiency and transparency to the post-disaster relief mechanism, a critical need in a state frequently grappling with devastating floods.
The launch of the application took place during a briefing and training session held at the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall. The event saw the participation of several key state dignitaries, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Revenue Minister Keshab Mahanta, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Atul Bora, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, and Minister Sushanta Borgohain, alongside various deputy commissioners. Their presence underscored the government's collective commitment to leveraging technology for effective disaster management.
This digital push is anticipated to revolutionize how Assam responds to floods, ensuring that aid is not only timely but also precisely targeted to those in most need. The initiative reflects a broader strategy by the state administration to integrate modern technology into governance, particularly in crucial sectors like disaster preparedness and response.
